A woman died after being struck by a vehicle in Maple Ridge on Monday morning near Lougheed Highway and Laity Street.
Woman Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle
A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Laity Street on Monday.
Ridge Meadows RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) responded to the incident at around 5:30 a.m.
A BCEHS spokesperson told CityNews that two ambulances arrived at the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical care to the pedestrian, who was then taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police report that the woman died from her injuries in the hospital.
Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit, with help from the Investigative Support Team and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, investigated the incident for several hours.
Eastbound lanes on Lougheed Highway between Laity Street and 216th Street were closed to traffic while officers worked at the scene. The lanes reopened late in the morning.
According to police, investigators are speaking to the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.
