Challenging Driving Conditions in Winnipeg Due to Freezing Rain

Slippery roads from freezing rain created difficult driving conditions in Winnipeg on Sunday.

Police responded to several incidents, including a four-vehicle collision at Kenaston Boulevard and Scurfield Drive shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to a police email.

One person was assessed by paramedics but did not need to go to the hospital, police reported.

Earlier on Sunday, around 10:40 a.m., officers went to the rapid transit area on Osborne Street, near Corydon Avenue, for a truck that had crashed.

The driver fled the scene, but no injuries were reported, according to a separate police email.

Police are investigating this collision.

Multiple vehicles were involved in another accident Sunday morning at Stafford Street and Corydon Avenue.

Officers responded to this incident, which resulted in a transit sign being knocked down.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a yellow warning for freezing rain in parts of the province earlier that day.

The federal agency stated that roads were likely to become slippery and affect traffic.

Multiple highways in southeastern parts of the province and into the Interlake area closed for periods on Sunday due to slippery conditions.
