Driver Pulled Over for Unsafe Load in Ontario
A transport driver has redefined “long-haul trucking” after being stopped with an unsafe load of logs by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The 29-year-old driver from Earlton, Ontario, was pulled over on Paul Martin Drive near Pembroke shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday. This action followed a complaint about an oversized load, according to OPP on Thursday.
Photos of the transport truck reveal logs extending several meters beyond the back of the trailer.
Officers measured the total length of the vehicle and its load at over 31 meters. They deemed it “unsafe due to excessive length, improper load securement, and the absence of required lighting to mark the rear of the load.”
Both the driver and the transport company face charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
OPP, along with a Ministry of Transport enforcement officer, charged the driver with multiple offenses under the Highway Traffic Act. The company that owns the truck is also facing charges.
“The OPP would like to remind drivers and owners of transport trucks to review all transportation and safety requirements prior to shipping oversized loads in order to help keep Ontario roadways safe,” stated OPP in a news release.
