A 29-year-old man was arrested in Winnipeg after robbing a fast-food restaurant, stealing burgers and fries, then fighting passengers on a bus before being apprehended.
Fast-Food Restaurant Heist in Winnipeg Leads to Arrest
A New Year’s Day fast-food restaurant heist in Winnipeg ended with a suspect being arrested on a city bus while eating burgers and fries.
Winnipeg police report that a man entered a fast-food restaurant on Thursday afternoon in the 1500 block of Portage Avenue. He demanded money from the front till and threatened to shoot the employees.
Three employees ran to safety. The man circled around the counter and tried, but failed, to open the cash register.
He then entered the kitchen of the unnamed restaurant and stole hamburgers and fries.
Afterward, the man boarded a bus with the stolen food and attempted to fight other passengers.
No injuries were reported. The bus had not traveled far when it stopped, and police took the suspect into custody.
A 29-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
