Second Shooting at Surrey Home Linked to Extortion Attempts

A home in Surrey’s Cloverdale neighbourhood has been targeted in a second shooting in less than two weeks. Police say both incidents appear to be linked to ongoing extortion attempts in the city.

The Surrey Police Service is investigating an overnight shooting at a residence in Cloverdale. Officers were called to the area of 187 Street and 54 Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, following reports of shots fired.

When police arrived, they found damage to the home, but no one inside was injured. The residence was previously targeted on December 31, 2025.

During that earlier incident, officers found damage to both the home and a parked vehicle. They also discovered several bullet casings in front of the residence. No one was hurt at that time.

There has been a rise in extortion-related violence against Canada’s South Asian community. This has involved dozens of shootings and led to the formation of a provincial task force last year.
