Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested seven people after gunshots were fired in a home in the North End neighbourhood on Saturday.

Police say they also seized a handgun and drugs worth about $6,700 from the residence.

WPS responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.

According to the police, an investigation showed that 38-year-old Alexander Paul Doyle and an unidentified 20-year-old woman were allegedly involved in an argument.

Doyle allegedly assaulted the woman, causing her minor injuries.

“Shortly after, while armed with a handgun, he exited the building and recklessly discharged the firearm, striking a neighbouring residence,” WPS said in a statement.

No injuries were reported due to the shots that were fired.

Police, assisted by the K9 unit, arrested seven people inside the home and seized 3.6 ounces of fentanyl (worth about $5,400) and 3.9 ounces of methamphetamine (worth about $1,300). They also seized a 9-millimetre handgun with ammunition.

Doyle has been taken into custody and charged with firearms-related and drug trafficking-related offences, assault, and proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Tyesha Sampaio Lobo, 28, and Travis Adam Chartrand, 42, were also taken into custody and charged with similar firearms and drug trafficking charges.

Two men in their fifties and two women in their twenties – who were unidentified – were also charged with “similar charges” but were released on either Appearance Notices or Undertakings, the police said.
