Mounties received the call late Friday about the incident, which is located about 400 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon. They did not find anyone injured at the scene.

Authorities are trying to determine if the gunshots are connected to an early morning shooting that happened on December 30. That incident resulted in one death and three injuries.

As the search continues for two suspects linked to the earlier shooting, security measures have been increased in the area.

Geoff Sandfly, the band manager at Big Island Lake Cree Nation, stated that he knew the man who was killed. He mentioned that the situation has caused stress within the community.
