Police in Pierceland are probing gunfire on Big Island Lake Cree Nation, possibly tied to a recent deadly shooting.
Police are looking into gunfire on Big Island Lake Cree Nation in northern Saskatchewan. They want to see if it connects to a deadly shooting from last week.
Pierceland RCMP received reports of gunshots on Friday just before 11 p.m. Officers searched the area but found no injuries, according to a news release from Saskatchewan RCMP.
Pierceland RCMP is working with the North Battlefords Provincial General Investigation Section to find out if the gunfire relates to the shooting on December 30. That incident left a 31-year-old man dead and three others hurt.
Geoff Sandfly, the band manager at Big Island Lake Cree Nation, said he knew the man who died. He mentioned that the event has caused stress in the community. The shooting is still under investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Investigators.
Residents will see more police in the area as both investigations continue. Police will share updates with the public as they become available.
