New Brunswickers in Miramichi and other cities captured snowy landscapes, wildlife, and the first super moon of 2026 as the new year began
New Brunswick’s Winter Scenes Mark the Start of 2026
The holiday season has ended, and New Brunswickers captured the last moments of 2025 and the first of 2026 with snowy and chilly weather.
This week’s edition showcases deer, moose, snow-covered landscapes, and the first super moon of the year.
Wildlife Sightings in New Brunswick
Several birds visit Debbie Cyr’s yard in Perth-Andover during this season, including a northern cardinal. The first super moon of the year was visible in St. Martins. A super moon occurs when the full moon is near perigee, the point where the moon is closest to Earth. A northern cardinal was also seen in a snowy rose bush in Pettes Cove on Grand Manan. Additionally, a duck was perched on driftwood in Nackawic, located in western New Brunswick.
Unique Moments Captured
Barry Morrison from Saint Andrews filmed a squirrel taking a Christmas ornament from his front lawn. He thought the squirrel mistook it for an apple from a nearby apple tree.
Moose were spotted on a trail near Miramichi. A view from Oromocto showed the year’s first super moon. Snow-covered blueberry fields were seen in Renous, near Miramichi, on New Year’s Eve. Deer were observed in a snowy parking lot in Saint John. A barred owl was spotted in Petit-Rocher, north of Bathurst.
