Man Arrested After Standoff with Police in Montreal
A man in his twenties, armed with a knife, was arrested after a standoff with police officers on Thursday morning, according to Montreal police (SPVM).
SPVM received a 911 call at about 7:45 a.m. regarding a man with a knife at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Berri Streets.
When police arrived, they found the man at the corner of Maisonneuve and Berri Streets. Upon seeing the officers, he ran from them.
During the intervention, several police officers were involved. The man allegedly became aggressive, prompting officers to use tasers and rubber bullets to subdue him.
As he continued to be aggressive, an officer fired a gunshot that did not hit the man, according to SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
The man was arrested and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital.
Brabant reported that two police cars involved in the operation collided. Officers sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital.
A security perimeter has been set up on Ste-Catherine and Maisonneuve Streets between Berri and Saguenay Streets as the investigation continues.
