Court Appearance Scheduled for Quebec Man After Shooting Incident

A 36-year-old man from northern Quebec is set to appear in court today. This is in connection with a gunfire exchange that occurred on December 20 with officers from the Nunavik Police Service.

Local authorities have identified a six-year-old girl who died 10 days after being found injured inside a home in Inukjuak, Quebec, following the shooting.

Andrew Naluktuk faces multiple charges. These include discharging a firearm at two peace officers and assaulting those officers with a weapon.

He also faces a charge of assault against another person and unlawfully causing bodily harm to a child.

Quebec’s police watchdog reported that Nunavik officers exchanged gunfire with an individual outside a home in the community just after 3:30 a.m. They responded to a call about a person who allegedly posed a danger to others.

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes stated that the individual was injured during the police intervention and was arrested. A second person, who was seriously hurt inside the residence, later died. Officials have not disclosed a cause of death.
