Luc Rabouin Appointed President and CEO of Foundation of Greater Montreal

Luc Rabouin, the former candidate for mayor of Montreal, will become the new president and CEO of the Foundation of Greater Montreal (FGM).

The foundation announced in a press release on Friday that Rabouin will start his new role on January 19. He previously led Projet Montréal, succeeding former mayor Valérie Plante.

The FGM, established in 1999, is Quebec’s largest community foundation. It manages over half a billion dollars in assets across 800 philanthropic funds.

Rabouin ran for mayor of Montreal after Plante’s retirement but lost to Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the leader of Ensemble Montréal, last November.

Following his defeat, Rabouin announced his resignation. Ericka Alneus, a City Councilor from Rosemont–La Petite Patrie, became the interim leader of Projet Montréal.

During his political career, Rabouin served as the mayor of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough and as chair of the City’s executive committee.

Before his election, he led the Montreal Urban Ecology Center and was the director of strategic development and communications at the Caisse d’économie solidaire Desjardins.

In the foundation’s press release, Rabouin expressed that he was “thrilled” about his new challenge.

He stated, “The FGM is a flagship institution in our community and a leader in the philanthropic sector in Montreal, Quebec, and Canada.”

Karen Macdonald, chair of the FGM board of directors, noted that the FGM “could not have found a better leader to begin the next chapter in its history.”

She added, “Luc’s leadership style, characterized by attentiveness and kindness, is perfectly aligned with the Foundation’s vision and the role it aspires to play in the Greater Montreal community.”
