Fatal Crash in Maple Ridge Under Investigation

A fatal crash in B.C. on Monday morning is affecting traffic.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating the motor vehicle incident that occurred in Maple Ridge.

The incident took place on Jan. 5 at around 5:30 a.m.

RCMP responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck near the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Laity Street.

“The female pedestrian was subsequently transported to hospital by emergency health services but has since succumbed to her injuries,” Ridge Meadows RCMP stated.

As of around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, all eastbound traffic on Lougheed Highway between Laity Street and 216th Street was closed. This closure will last for “an indeterminate amount of time.”

RCMP officers are speaking to the driver of the vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing.

Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with support from the Investigative Support Team.

“The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is also on scene,” Ridge Meadows RCMP added.
