An elderly man is in life-threatening condition after a head-on collision in Nepean.
Ottawa firefighters had to extract the drivers of two vehicles following the crash on Sunday morning.
Ottawa Fire Services received the call from Ottawa Police Service at 8:51 a.m. and responded to the 2200 block of Prince of Wales Drive.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that both vehicles had sustained extensive damage.
The vehicles were located approximately 150 feet apart, and both drivers were trapped inside.
Firefighters stabilized the vehicles and began to extricate the trapped occupants using specialized hydraulic rescue tools.
The first driver was safely extricated at 9:05 a.m., and the second at 9:20 a.m.
Firefighters had to remove the driver’s door and lift the dashboard to free the driver’s legs.
Both vehicles were de-energized before clearing the scene. The roadway was closed during the rescue efforts but has since reopened.
Three people were sent to the hospital, and one man in his 80s is reported to be in life-threatening condition, according to Ottawa police.
