Weekend Shooting in Cornwall Linked to Intimate Partner Violence
Cornwall Police report that a shooting over the weekend resulted in two deaths and one serious injury. The incident was classified as intimate partner violence.
The shooter, an 81-year-old man, shot his 80-year-old former partner and her 83-year-old male friend before taking his own life, according to a police update on Monday evening.
The 83-year-old man died from his injuries, while the woman is still receiving treatment for serious injuries.
“This is a deeply tragic situation,” said Chief of Police Shawna Spowart in the release. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those affected during this very difficult time.”
Police responded to a home on the 400-block of Leitch Drive on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of a shooting.
“Investigators have determined this to be an incident of intimate partner violence, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety,” the release stated.
No further information will be released, according to police.
