The Conservative Party of British Columbia has formed a leadership election organizing committee. This committee will oversee the selection of a new leader for the party.

Scott Lamb is the chair of the committee. He stated that B.C. is “desperately in need of new leadership” to guide the province. The committee will start its work immediately to set the rules and processes for the leadership contest, which will happen as soon as possible.

This leadership contest comes after former leader John Rustad resigned on December 4. His resignation followed a caucus revolt where 20 MLAs lost confidence in him. The party had announced that Trevor Halford was installed as interim leader after the caucus vote.

No one has officially announced plans to run for the leadership since Rustad’s resignation. Lamb is a lawyer and has served as president of the Conservative Party of Canada. Other committee members include Aisha Estey, president of the B.C. Conservatives, Skeena MLA Claire Rattee, and Don Nightengale, who was the returning officer for the federal Conservatives’ 2021 leadership race.
