Update on Calgary Water Main Break

Mayor Jeromy Farkas, along with City of Calgary officials, will provide an update at 1 p.m. Saturday on efforts to repair the ruptured Bearspaw south feeder main.

Current Water Usage Status

Water use hit unsustainable levels for the sixth straight day on Friday. Farkas posted on social media that Calgarians are in the “red zone.” Residents are asked to reduce water usage by taking shorter showers, flushing less, and running fewer loads of laundry and dishes.

Repair Efforts

The city has begun to slowly refill the pipe with water. This is part of a multi-day process to restore the feeder main to service. Once filled, the water in the pipe will need to be tested, and the water pressure will need to be stabilized.

Road Work Plans

The city has announced that road work to repave the broken stretch of 16th Avenue is likely to start this weekend. The road could reopen by midweek.
