Calgary remains under Stage 4 water restrictions after a major water main break, with the mayor urging remote work to reduce strain on the system.
Calgary Mayor Urges Remote Work Amid Water Crisis
Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas is urging those who can work from home to do so. This comes one week after a significant water main break.
On Tuesday, the mayor posted on social media. He stated that city employees able to work remotely will do so. He encourages employers to let their workers do the same to lessen the strain on the water system.
In an update on January 6 at 7 AM, Farkas said, “Calgary, we’re still in the water red zone. We need your urgent help to buy a little more time for the repair. Please do everything you can to conserve.”
The City of Calgary’s potable water demand dashboard reported that the city used 514 million liters of water on Monday. This amount is considered unsustainable.
Calgary is still under Stage 4 water restrictions. Residents are asked to run dishwashers and laundry only when full. They should limit showers to under three minutes and flush toilets only when necessary.
