Three Charged After Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Discovery
Winnipeg police report that three individuals have been charged following a traffic stop that uncovered firearms.
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) states the traffic stop occurred shortly after midnight on January 5. Officers observed a Ford Explorer allegedly commit a Highway Traffic Act infraction near Charles Street and Machray Avenue.
As the Explorer stopped, the driver and two passengers attempted to flee on foot. A 46-year-old man was apprehended immediately outside the vehicle. Police found $3,000 in cash and 17 grams of Fentanyl on him.
Another 46-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were located near Main Street and Cathedral Avenue and were also taken into custody.
Subsequently, police searched the vehicle and seized a dismantled Remington 812 12-gauge shotgun, a loaded Dan Wesson .357 revolver with a defaced serial number, and a digital scale.
Chantel Kim Traverse, 37, has been charged with multiple firearm-related offences and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking.
Additionally, 46-year-olds Ronald Jason Leathwood and Robert All Thompson face firearms-related charges. Leathwood is also charged with drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of a crime, and five counts of failing to comply with a release order.
